Chero Chero!

Boom Boom Pow =D

Exploring Brisbane City!

I’ve been here since February this year, and at first sight, I loved Brisbane city. I was awed at the sight and the sounds- you know how much I love cities. However, after the novelty has worn out, ‘going to the city’ mainly means going there to shop/ eat/ hang out. I hadn’t even really explored much of the city other than the usual places we go to. So one fine day (heh heh like an essay), nero, tino, jiro and chero went exploring the city, with the help of a map and our trusty human GPS =)

First stop: Albert St Uniting Church

Only Tina, Jillian and I went there because Nellyn woke up late lol. We didn’t go in because it wasn’t open yet. A pastor (I assume) came out and invited us in but we were paiseh…and this may sound really bad, but we were also afraid that we would be stuck listening to him preaching and not know how to politely excuse ourselves ehe

Brisbane City Hall. This picture taken from the pavement outside Albert St Church

Inside city hall. The stairs lead up to the Lord Mayor’s office hehe

Old-school lift buttons. We were going up the place to take another lift up the clock tower

Old-school telephone booth and the girl who likes to take pictures with every single thing =P

We went up the clock tower on this very old-school lift (no kidding! It’s been around since 1930)

Check out the Albert St Uniting Church =)

The bells

One of the clock faces taken on the way down

The MOB (Museum of Brisbane) is also situated in the city hall (admission is free! in fact, all the touristy places we went to that day did not have admission fees…which is what I love about here hehe)

Scary much? XD

Next, we went to the Anzac Memorial Square (Tina and Jillian had planned the whole itinary for the day). I had been there before but they hadn’t

This flame never goes off

Central station opposite memorial square

Koala House? Haha wonder what they do in there…

Tina and her metallic foxy boyfriend XD

St John’s Cathedral =D My first time going to a really old-school church…you know how most churches nowadays are only normal buildings? Especially in Malaysia. I’m no christian but I really think old buildings are cool haha…uh except haunted ones T.T This church is so old-school that the bishops and other people whose titles I don’t know sorry ehe wear those ceremonial robes during service..that’s what I heard la haha.

St Martin’s House opposite the church. I reckon the bishop or whoever important lives here lol

Me loves this kinda architecture =D There were pews too! Pews!

OMG a real pipe organ!

The cathedral is an Anglican one and even Queen Elizabeth attended service here in 1954! Please excuse my use of ‘!!!!’ haha

Stain glass windows

Crap I am short T.T

Us cloud-gazing while waiting for Tina to go to the toilet haha

View of the cathedral taken from the park where we had lunch prepared by Tina =)

Remember how I always thought that this was City Hall? On account of how the city halls in Batman and other superhero movies always look like this. It’s actually Customs House

See? Haha and it belongs to the all-awesome UQ! I don’t know the purpose of Customs houses though…but there are restaurants and function rooms inside…that’s all I know lol

After that we took city cat from Riverside to Southbank

The Ferarri that so many people were clamouring to take photos with. People! It’s just a Ferarri (muahaha berlagak..haha just kidding) Anyway…I reckon the stretch pink hummer was cooler =D

We went to to Queensland Museum at Southbank. Heh I know it makes us sound so nerdy…going to two museums on the same day. Some people who think they are cool wouldn’t even be caught dead in a museum right? Anyway…let me tell you a little secret…we are boring nerds who are secretly very very very awesome XD

Jill and I doing nerdy stuff ie trying to remember the different types of dog bones we learnt and trying to apply them on dinosaurs >.<

I reckon Queensland Museum is pretty amazing =D Much more interesting stuff compared to MOB. But the cool thing about these two museums is that they change the exhibits, which is more that I can say for the museums back home. Also, I don’t remember….but we have to pay to get into museums in Malaysia hey?

=D I love taking this kinda pictures lately haha

Clouds on fire!

We went to the casino for dinner and Jill treated (or ‘shouted’ as the Aussies say it lol) us on account of our bet that says whoever gets 7(s) for the 1st end of sem exam has to treat the others. And btw if you are wondering (and you probably aren’t haha)…I got a 4 (chun chun pass haha…BIOCHEM what..what more do you expect lol) and 3 6s (distinction! haha telling my parents I got 3 distinctions sounds better than 3 6s)

$10 each for a cake, main course and coffee/ mocha/ hot chocolate/ tea etc because we signed up to become members hahaha. it’s $14 for non-members. WTF would my friends/ family think when they know that I’m a casino member =P

Salmon quiche

Beef carbonade

And after-dinner drinks at Batavia =D

I had chocogatto that I had been craving for days

Lemon Lime and Bitters recommended by your’s truly =D

On the way back from Southbank to the city to catch the bus back to Indooroopilly (which I waited for 50 minutes on account of it being a Sunday and also it was the already the last bus), saw this different lighting of the casino =D

Road Trip To Gatton

Nellyn borrowed her housemate’s car for the day and the 4 of us plus a very lucky guy, James drove down to Gatton…presumably to check out the on campus accomodation and Gatton Town…but we got sidetracked many, many times haha. That’s the whole point of a road trip anyway…so yeah =)

And oh…if you have been reading my blog for some time, you would know that I am dreading the prospect of moving to Gatton next year lol

Driver number 1: Nellyn Tay!

Us in the backseat

On the way to Gatton. In Malaysia if you are on the highways you would see oil palms and rubber trees but this is what you see here

Haha Koo and Shen love this kinda scenery

Optimus Prime OMG!!!! Haha lmao

We saw this sign along the way and thought of checking out what they had. I didn’t know that people eat emu meat…but I guess it’s an Aussie thing hey…I mean, I’ve eaten ostrich before anyway.

Lol James was taking this picture and then he went ‘Aahhhh they are coming really near’ and Nell and I freaked out haha. Oh yeah, some of them did this weird dance that I teased Tina was a mating dance for her hehe. And when we asked the lady in the shop she said that it was indeed the mating season now muahaha.

Them emus

Emu feathers, egg shells and meat for pet consumption for sale. The lady behind the counter even brought out the emu meat for human consumption for us to see

Choosing stuff to buy lol…Tina bought an egg shell for her bro. The lady told us that an emu egg is equivalent to a dozen of chook (read: chicken) eggs =O

Just as we were leaving the place, I saw this horsy! So pretty….haha we think it’s a paint horse but we’re not sure…I suck at horse breeds =.=

Heart shaped ❤

There was a Shetland pony too (okay…I think I’m correct about this lol) and Tina was in her ‘I wanna kacau all the horses’ hair’ mood haha…check out how the pony is looking up like ‘where’s my hair??????????????’ =D so cute

They were both so fat I reckon they had a body condition score of 8 or something hehe

James was quite scared

We left the emu farm and saw a place selling fresh produce. Next to it was the building above. The bakery sold sausage rolls for $1 (in Brisbane it would be around $2 or more) and pies for $2 (at least $3 something here)…we went to check out the saddlery because…who has been to a saddlery hey? =P

On of the displays outside the saddlery

The lady who owned the shop asked me to try it out lol…and I was so ‘cho lor’. When we asked her how much it was she said that it costs $3500 =O and I was like ‘OMG I’m sooooo sorry’ heh heh. Apparently it’s made of real sterling silver and Toowoomba leather. She was so nice..she owns a Quarter horse stud and she even showed us the pictures of her horses and taught us about coat colour…which is such a relief because it can be so daunting especially for us who have no exposure at all…and during Animal Husbandry lectures there are so many other classmates that own horses and ride and take part in dressage etc T.T and we know NOTHING compared to them

Horsey stuff

The building next door selling fresh produce

Check out the prices =O

Finally we reached UQ Gatton campus. Is that a silo???

LMAO Nell and James look funny XD

Gatton campus is huge…considering that there are only so few faculties there. The buildings there are very far apart though. They even have an environmental park there…we saw something huge and shaggy running around and I was ‘OMG what’s that what’s that????’ and it turned out to be a sheep dog running around gila-ly lol

V-shaped formation =D

We saw a hare (OMG A HARE!!!! I HAVE NEVER SEEN A HARE BEFORE) running across the road to this place over here and we were trying to find it haha. We are such city-kids hey

After that we went back to where they coralled the horses and this horse approached us =D

There’s a shaved patch at its neck because I reckon they took blood sample from it

=DDDDD I love this horse…so friendly and sweet awww. Imma learn riding next year! I wish he was mine T.T

Hahahahahaha so funny la this picture

This horse was next to the horse above..and what did I say about the whole ‘kacau horse hair thing’..she wanted to nerdy-fy the poor thing >.<

Bye baby T.T

Awww sho shweet =D

Sheep! we couldn’t get near them though because once we got near to them they all retreated to the far end =/

Haha busted!

Dairy cows! I love Jerseys (the brown one)…they have such sweet faces haha

Nah…karma…nerdy-fying Tina XD

My boots after a day of traipsing around lol

Pretty hey haha

Driver number 2: James Gan! hahaha he actually deleted this picture because it’s somewhat embarassing but good thing I had already copied another copy in Jill’s pendrive heh heh

On the way back we stopped at another place selling fresh produce again. OMG THE PRICES..

We bought these and shared amongst us lol..the lady at the counter didn’t charge for the 9cents avocado Jill wanted haha

We bought these too..why are they so cheap??? why??? isn’t it even lower than the cost? haha

Hasil hehe

After that I fell asleep and when I woke up we were already at La Dolce Vita =D…no pictures of the drinks (they had buy 1 free 1 for non-alcoholic drinks for uni students that night haha) but here are the pictures of the pastries and cakes we shared =D

Chocolate cannolo…my favourite OMG. The texture of the chocolate is oh-so-smooth and mmmm sighhhhh haha. Too bad they didn’t have the peach Galliano that Chong Hao recommended

Rum-baba (spelling?) recommended by the very cute and friendly waiter…when you eat it every bite is soaked it rum haha

Passionfruit torte..the least special amongst the three but still quite nice nonetheless

Oh well, Gatton’s not as bad as I thought…Gatton town was quite ok too, way better than what I expected because it’s sorta like St Lucia..bigger than Hawken village definitely. They had KFC, Maccas, Coles, Target, Ezy video etc…so I guess we can still survive there. But for my own sanity I reckon I need to go back to civilisation every other weekend =P will see how it goes lol

Hanging Out With The Koo Sisters

Koo’s sisters Boon and Yee came over to Brissy and we went out together for a few days =D

Harbor Town

In the train to Gold Coast (this was just the day following the Sea World trip lol..spent so much on transport =.=)

The Koo Sisters

Hahaha of course we are happy at the prospect of shopping!

We had lunch-ner at Coffee Club…funny how when you shop the food you had wayyyy early during breakfast can sustain you for such a long time

Seafood Basket $14.90 ($12.50 upon presentation of tourist priviledge card lol) and the sandwiches that were $9.90

Pretty clouds at dusk hehe

Mt Cootha

That night Chong Hao fetched us to Mt Cootha which offers a panoramic view of Brissy! We were super tired by that time but when we saw the view everyone became semangat again hehe. It’s usually quite difficult to get to Mt Cootha if you don’t have a car…there’s public transport but not at night.

=D but seriously though, my camera does the view no justice AT ALL. In real life it’s probably 1298893 times more awesome haha

The restaurant atop Mt Cootha…and a dude using super pro camera…I bet his pictures turn up wayyyyy better than our’s

Yupyupyup Mt Cootha’s also known as One Tree Hill, not just that basketball show with Chad Michael Murray in it hey

La Dolce Vita

After that we went to Park Road which has lotsa nice cafes

Little Paris =D

It’s a bit weird though that there’s a mini Eiffel Tower at La Dolce Vita..because La Dolce Vita’s Italian and isn’t the Eiffel Tower French? Why not the leaning tower instead lol

The ambience there was really nice…romantic and laidback hehe…can phak thor there XP

The pastry menu mmmmmm

Hahaha that’s the propreiter of the place I reckon..he was so funny. And check out the waiter’s expression…super cute!

I had the Hazelnut Italian Gelati Shake $5.95 (quite affordable if compared to Batavia..but the portions at Batavia are larger) was really nice…there were small nut pieces in it hehe. Everyone else loved it too lol..But I just came back from La Dolce Vita again with Tina, Jill, Nellyn and James and it didn’t taste as nice..why? and the other people didn’t like it =(

Chong Hao and Koo had the iced chocolate, also $5.95

Officially our favourite beer lol

We shared a bake cheesecake

Cool tabletop =)

Steamboat at home

Group picture!

We had a simple steamboat…oof don’t think I can type about food anymore…I feel super hungry now =/

Sisters Boon and Yee, I hope you girls had an awesome time in Brissy =D

Foody Sleepover!

36 hours dedicated to buying ingredients and alcohol, chopping, marinating, mixing, cooking, baking food, eating food, drinking and watching movies haha

Shen and Koo went to Gold Coast for whale-watching which I was oh-so-excited about in the beginning (and I still am ehe) and Dreamworld over the weekend with NGO from Brissy, Melby and NZ but I opted out…because I was (and maybe still am) in my antisocial phase sigh. So I was gonna be alone for a night and the prospect kinda sucked. Hence, I invited my Vet Gang- Tina, Jillian and Nellyn over =)

Shopping at Woolies

This is only like less than half the stuff we bought…we spent a total of $108.80…enough to last 4 NORMAL people with NORMAL cravings and appetites for around than 2 WEEKS =.= and it was only for our 2 DAYS wtfness =.=

Anyway…this was our lunch-ner for Friday: Chicken cordon bleu, oven-baked Italian style potatoes (hehe this was just the instant Birds Eye one…but it tasted really nice ) and a fruit salad

watermelon, apple and strawberry fruit salad with vanilla cream..hehehe

Muahahaha looks pretty hey

Customary group shot that would become apparent over the 2 days haha

Chicken cordon bleu…OMG right???????? we made our own chicken cordon bleu using chicken schitzel, ham, swiss cheese and breadcrumbs mixed with lemon rind, salt and pepper

Cheeeeeesssssyyyyyyyyyyyyy ❤

We ran out of dishwashing liquid and went back to Indooroopilly mall again to get it after that haha. We also got some alcohol ahem

After coming back we started on our cinnamon apple crumble! Me kneading the dough for the crust haha

I know! Unbelievable right =P

Jill cutting the Granny Smiths

Cinnamon sugar for the filling…mmmm I love cinnamon haha

The epitome of improvising lol…that’s me rolling the dough using a Vodka Cruiser bottle muahaha

Our baby in the oven haha..looks not bad right lol

BUTBUTBUT when I took out the pie I held it the wrong way and the whole pie dish fell from my hands! I think both Jill and I (Tina and Nellyn went to life group and to buy more ingredients haha) watched in horror as the pie dish slow-motionly dropped. Good thing it dropped on its butt and not the top phew….so it was still very salvageable. When the other two came back they even said that it looked pretty lol…until they saw the ‘before’ picture haha.

Eating minty bubbly chocolate while watching Masterchef while waiting for Tina and Nellyn to come back

Preparing dinner! Hehe holey cheeses are funny for me cos they are so cartoonish

Dinner of cinnamon apple crumble, Doritos with melted cheese and ham served with hot chunky tomato salsa and the fruit salad from lunch

Happy when there’s food lol

Even better with vanilla icecream hehe. The downside was that the crust was too thick and too hard..probably cos we baked it an extra 15 minutes for fear of the apples not being soft enough and also we made double the amount of dough suggested for the crust cos Nellyn was afraid that the amount of dough suggested in the recipe wasn’t enough to hold the filling. However, it was an awesomeeeeeeee first try I reckon =) *proud*

Heh what did I say about customary pre-eating group picture haha

We watched Addams’ Family and 10 Things I Hate About You that night

Breakfast for Saturday morning while watching She’s The Man

Lunch of chicken and fish katsu (we still had lotst leftover breadcrumb-mix from the chicken cordon bleu), mountains of salad (Tina!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and home-made oven-baked potatoes with melted cheese and chunky tomato salsa

Ho hum…

Heh heh…but it was shared among the 4 of us so it really wasn’t much…

Muahahaha minum sikit sudah ade PINK ROSY CHEEKS XD

“I feel dizzzyyyyyyyy” heh heh Tina drank the least lol

Dinner of  Tom yum with bihun and chocolate-dipped fruits

Tom yum bihun with chicken, mussels, prawns, squid, mushroom, wombok, carrots and baby corn =D

This one’s the nicest of the group pics cos it was taken by Ms Koo instead of Mr Self timer lol

Phooo….freaking full…2 days of eatingeatingeating lol

Contented face haha

Hmm…I am freaking bloated and FAT. I reckon I need to fast T.T. But honestly though, if this were to happen on a frequent basis (We are probably living together in Gatton if we stay off-campus lol), I would be twice the size I am now in no time at all

On another note though, the food was undeniably fabulous heh heh

Swee Kee’s Birthday

Swee Kee’s 20th birthday on 26 June at Sizzler’s Toowong =D

With my housemates kesayangan haha

Customary mirror shot while waiting for Chong Hao and Gabriel to come fetch us lol

Oyea…Liyinism! these are the $5 Raspberry tights I told you about

In Sizzlers..while waiting in line

People who are happy when there’s food..and oyea, Cass was here from Gatton =) and she said that the residential halls provide food like this…which kinda makes me think that they might be not as bad as I thought them to be

KC, Wei Yew and Kai Xiang

Piglet number 3 with her ice cream that she didn’t manage to finish hehehehe (oyea the salad bar was buffet style btw…and I LOVE the apple crumble lol..but overall the food there was ok nia…i mean..the price was quite high la so not really worth it..but it was fun haha)

Koo with the birthday girl

Uh oh…Shen was trusted to cut the cake *cue suspense music*

Danny! for some bizzare reason (that doesn’t come any close to ‘i like him’, he was the person who ended up in the pictures taken using my camera the most)

Shu busy taking pictures as usual…

Lalala…work in progress haha

Siap! and check out her pretty ring lol…

Happy birthday! ❤ hope you had a great one…and for the record, I have never ever met such a sporting birthday girl who willingly wore pyjama pants out and was blindfolded all the way from St Lucia to Toowong and had paper stuck on her back reading ‘Wish me happy birthday’…if it were me I would cry T.T haha I admire that. Anyway…hope the 3 bears are doing great lol

Treasury Casino

Since we hadn’t hung out just the three of us in a long time,  we decided to get outta the house yesterday! Also..someone was quite emo what..and nothing chases emo-ness away like great girlies and awesome food haha. We remembered Auntie Jen telling us last time that there is this restaurant in Treasury Casino called Pastano and they serve affordable meals so with passport in hand, we set out to the city! After more than an hour of getting ready and getting headachey over what to wear and ‘hmm no casual footwear’ and ‘hmm should we wear heels?’ and ‘wtf no one wears heels here it’s impractical’ and ‘butbutbut heels look oh-so-sexy’ and ‘yeah, they do don’t they’ and ‘ouch this is painful’ and in the end practicality and comfort truimph over style. Oh well, this ain’t New York haha.

Outside our apartment. Yes, I do realise that I look bulky…but maybe that’s just the knitted hoodie. or maybe well…I am indeed putting on the pounds sigh

450 city express

Poyo shot haha. Koo was testing out her new Olympus camera but yeah, none of us really know how to use Olympus cameras so many of the pics are blurry. In fact, among all the pics in this Treasury Casino folder, about half are not clear haha. Who uses Olympus? Please teach my housemate =D

Outside the casino

And in case you don’t know how the casino looks like, I uploaded this picture that was taken when I first came to Brisbane haha.

Very 18oo-ish

Pastano menu. Check out the one on the right! $10 meals including main course, cake/ fruit salad and coffee/ tea/ cuppacino/ latte/ hot chocolate/ mocha etc. But that’s the price for the members of the casino. Non-members pay like $14, which is quite worth it too actually. But the membership is free and I reckon if we wanna continue going there we should probably join haha. Casino membership for the food =P

We reached there at 5.20pm and it was not opened yet! We had to wait until 6pm

So we loitered around…and camwhored haha and checked out hot dealer dudes. We were probably 3 of the youngest people in the whole casino (hmm maybe there were younger ang mohs too la but they probably looked more mature than us)

Hmm where to go to…so we went to the toilet lol. There are responsible gambling posters and brochures in there

Ahh…and then there was this fine-dining restaurant called Marco Polo which looked so classy and omg and Shen says she wants to have her birthday there (let’s all ignore that, eh? XD)

*nods head*

We wandered around and apparently all the top floors house the hotel rooms and this is sorta like the mini lobby outside a few of the rooms

‘Got an idea!’

Family portrait haha

Getting bored sighhhh and hungry lol…6pm cepatlah datang. And then and then 2 of the staff came and asked us whether we were house guests and we said no and we were halau-ed from  the mini lobby place cos apparently it’s only for the guests..hehe ahem.

5.55pm there was already a line outside Pastano!

Hehe mango daiquiri, $4

Koo’s battered fish strips with sweet and sour sauce and seafood fried rice

Shen and I had Chicken and Mushroom vol-au-vent with mash and salad. Yummilicious!

Choc mud cake, Cheesecake and Lemon cheesecake

We finished everything in less than 10 minutes maybe..haha and we got sooooo full until Shen couldn’t even drink the coffee/ tea/ hot chocolate thingy hehe. The plan of after-meal drinks at Batavia was cancelled cos we had difficulty moving after that lol

It was a satisfying meal mhmmm and I think we will definitely go there again..after getting membership perhaps? haha I wonder what my parents will think if I tell them I have a casino membership card lol XD

Mamak Night Sem 1 09′

Mamak Night organised by UQMSA! How could we resist the temptation of roti canai, kuih-muih, beef rendang, kari ayam, teh tarik etcetc…mmmmm

But first things first…getting ready! hohum…well, Mamak Night’s not like a hugeee formal social event or whatever…but the 3 of us are vain and we use every opportunity to attempt to dress up haha

Hehe this picture is cute ❤

Hungry Malaysians queing up for the oh-so-precious taste from home haha. The event was held at the rooftop terrace at Building 39 which is Collin or something like that haha

Everyone busy eating…nomnomnom

And the end results haha

Kak Huda who was the first senior who was so nice to us here and let us stay at her house for like the first week we were here…most AWESOME senior ever haha. yeah, I got high on nothing yesterday during Mamak Night and I’m getting high on nothing typing this too… =.=

With Diyana who is an INTEC senior

Danny Ler busy talking on the phone with muka serious haha

Malaysians haha. It was really nice to hang out with so many Malaysians and ‘lah, ma, I oso wan!!!!, kan? whatlahyou =D’ till our hearts’ content hehe. Usually if not for these events, it would be difficult to meet up with these people…what with different courses and all.

Kai Xiang, Gaby, Your’s truly, Piglet Shen, Danny, Haziq Kenji haha and Sze Luan the ‘Short, Fat Red Riding Hood’ (Chong Hao 2009) LMAO

Nah…why so elusive Gabriel haha

Chong Hao with some of the committee members

This picture is blur >.< and I look fugly but I think it’s funny so I’m posting it here to. Ahem…ah the sacrifices I make to entertain my readers XD. These are the residents of 162 Highland Tce past and present minus Koo and Blacky

Amirul, sorry I don’t know your name and Danny. Budak engineering all of them…haha I realise that most of my friends here who are not from INTEC are taking engineering

Ah we had sooo much fun. Look how happy we were =DDD

BUTBUTBUT Amirul told me that because we hadn’t hung out for so long, when I waved to him (in my very excited way hehe) his first though was that I am now phat, fta, taf FAT. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well his word was ‘plumper’ la…BUTBUTBUT STILLLLLLLLLL
Dammit no more KFC la been eating KFC at least once a week for the past few weeks on the insistence of Koo Shuk Kuan who I swear is addicted to KFC. KFC is Keep Fat Coming (Kai Xiang, Gabriel 2009)

Zhuo Wen hahahaha

In the bus on the way back to Indooroopilly. My failed attempt at zhi pai-ing lol

Reflection of us haha. Creepy but cool la

With a random Korean dude hehe. No la it’s just Gabriel =D

Okay I’m going city with my girls soon…gonna get ready!

Still high lol

Clouds Are Fluffy Cotton Candy-Like Things

Random title hehe

My parents organised a farewell party last Saturday. It was an on-off-on again-off again-on again thingy (sorta like Meredith and Derek’s relationship in Grey’s Anatomy lol). There were so many factors ie who to invite; what to order; should we cater or barbeque etcetc. In the end my parents just invited my family members from the paternal and maternal side and also my Dad’s PFS gang haha.

We had barbeque, nasi kandar, cakes and konnyaku jelly etcetc.

Blah I didn’t have any mood to snap pictures. I’m weird like that. I hate farewells boo. I guess part of me was scared that I’d see me trying to act oh-so-happy in all the pictures and failing to do so =(

I did get loads of ang paos though heh heh heh and also a Puma jacket, a Swatch watch and a cuddly furry soft toy. I am super duper appreciative of everything and so touched that people love me like that but when I unwrapped the presents I felt and strange sense of -I can’t put a word on it- Is is reluctance? I mean, I didn’t feel OMG MUAHAHAHA I GOT SO MANY AWESOME STUFF! LALALA I AM SOOOOO HAPPY AND EXCITED TO BE LEAVING FOR BRISBANE MUAHAHA. I WILL FIND HOT SURFER GUYS THERE MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Nah, instead I felt homesick already. And veryveryvery reluctant to leave everything that matters behind. All the gifts made everything feel so real.

I find it difficult to sleep lately.

I toss and turn. My heart palpitates. It feels so full it gets heavy. I second-guess my decision. Should I have taken the safe route and go to Form 6 after SPM then proceed to USM which is a 15-minutes-ride from home? Then I think..nah hell no! I’ve always wanted this. I’ve always wanted to study overseas. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity so suck it up and act like an adult. But I can’t suck it up. I worry about everything from the possibility of my luggage being overweight and whether our application for accomodation will be approved or not and why do other students get 30kg baggage allowance but we only get 20?

My heart. It is heavy.

The darkness consumes me as I lie awake at night.

I am starting to miss my family already. When my Mum tells me to be careful and study hard and always always ALWAYS wear sunblock and don’t smoke don’t drink look out for nice guys lol or when Bro tells me that he loves me then proceed to bully me or when I cuddle with Pepper I hold back tears. I do it so vehemently. So determinedly because I don’t want them to see me break down. Not yet.

The clouds. They are fluffy cotton candy-like things.

On another note, today’s a public holiday (Thaipusam) so the Dad’s PFS gang went for a morning walk at Sin Hock mountain (hehehe) and then for dim sum (Julia kept pronouncing the ‘dim’ like how you would pronounce it in this sentence: OMG how can he be so dim? and everyone kept laughing and she said ‘Then why is it spelled as ‘dim’ and not ‘tim’ ar?hehehehehe). And then everyone met again at 12.15 for a seafood lunch at Batu Maung. Super full today foo. Oh yeah, today’s Chap Goh Meh so Ah Ma cooked bubur chacha nomnomnom.

Ah this is the photo of the day! Presenting Lee Wey Lyn ❤

We were at Forever 21 and she was on the phone and I started piling the bag and the necklace and the hat on her hehe

p/s You know that you are over someone when you think of him and all you want for him is to be happy. And when your friends talk about him your facial expression doesn’t change. And when you hear that he is in love in your heart you wish him good luck =) hehe

Niu Nian Kuai Le!

[Disclaimer: UUUURRRGH I was almost done with this post and suddenly everything went blank! TWICE! WTF is wrong with wordpress???]

Wishing everyone a happy and prosperous Chinese New Year! Gong xi fa cai =D

Some pictures taken before and during CNY:

Ingredients for fruit cake that Mum made. I know fruit cakes are more Christmassy instead of Chinese New Year-ish but who cares as long as it’s good, right? In previous years we (and by ‘we’ I mean Mum doing almost everything while I occasionally beat the batter and wash up lol) baked chocolate chip cookies, butter cookies and minty chocolate moist cake..but not anymore =/

Leaving them on a rack to cool down

Sa Chap Meh (Chinese New Year Eve)

The Choong family’s reunion dinner is always ALWAYS steamboat. I know some people eat normal stuff like kiam chai ak etc but this is already like a tradition for us hehe. Nothing like ‘eh who took my abalone???’ to bond a family, eh? Reunion dinners for this side of the family is not thattt big a deal cos everyone’s in Penang (I won’t be in 13-days-time!!!) and our family’s not that big so we still meet quite often. The picture above shows what was left AFTER we had had our share…the BEFORE would be like 3 times that haha.

With Mum and cousins Gene and Ray

Ah Kong and Ah Ma. Ah Kong always scoops the food for Ah Ma awww =)

Everyone adjourned to the living room after that. Last time us grandchildren used to play firecrackers but not anymore (maybe when we pai tee kong?). Seems like the CNY atmosphere ain’t what it used to be, huh? =(

I’m the eldest that’s kinda hard to believe..ahem

Cousins Jacyn, Carmen and Cassandra ❤

Chay It (First day of the Lunar month)

Cheng ang ang! Haha Dad looks angry cos he was getting impatient ‘Wanna go Ah Ma’s house already some more take pictures! Don’t sio!’ hehe

‘SPM liao ai kut lat’ =DD

Back to Ah Kong and Ah Ma’s house we went. Breakfast is always the leftover steamboat stuff with either cintan mee/ mee sua/ koay teow.

The oldest member of the family and the youngest..hehe

Ah Kong’s the eldest son in his family so every year all his siblings plus their children plus their grandchildren will come to Ah Kong’s house on the first day of CNY.

‘Huh? Really?’ hehehe nah I made that up.

Kuih kapit is my favourite-testtesttesttest New Year cookie everrr. I finished 3 quaters of a bottle of it even before CNY lol

All the grandchildren ❤

After lunch at paternal grandparents’ house we went back for a rest but we were soon called back cos another sibling of Ah Kong was there. Tres tired lol

After that we went to maternal grandma’s house in town

‘All mineee!!!’

Woot me love pineapple jam tarts…uh after kuih kapit that is..hehe. These ones were made by Ah Ma and Tua Ee…awesomely yummy

Li Yang, Bro and Li Tatt. Heh heh heh Li Tatt got Mr Good Looking for Penang Inti’s HSC program. Heh heh heh

Liyin! Remember her from my Hanoi post? Which reminds me…I still haven’t posted about the second part of the trip hehe. God she’s so pretty and photogenic..go check out her blog and you will know what I mean XD

That evening we went to Suk suk (Dad’s younger Bro)’s place cos his birthday was coincidentally on Chay It so there was a birthday cum CNY celebration

Barbequeing before the other guests arrived. I ateateate so much >.<

After that (omg yea we went to so many places and spent almost the whole day outside) we went to Uncle Kah Beng’s house (also a tradition!). My childhood friends lol..we’ve known each other the moment we were born (is it possible?) cos our dads have been friends since their PFS days..hehe.

The wives..haha

The uncles with their canggih super expensive cameras =O

Loads of food..nomnomnom. I ate again..seriously I have zero self-control..even though I was already very full I couldn’t stop myself from eating the cakes and cookies etcetc. The whole day was full of eating lol

Chay Ji (Second day of the Lunar Month)

Every year on Chay Ji we will all congregate at maternal grandma’s house and she would single-handedly prepare loads of food to feed her sons and daughters, wife (new addition to the family!) and husbands  and their children lol. So this year Mum and all the ees decided to have a pot luck instead, so that all the burden would not be on Ah Ma’s shoulders alone.

Tua Ee preparing the batter for roti jala

Heh heh heh me preparing spaghetti sauce (not 100% my work lar but hehe). I look funny lol

We had sate, roti jala with curry chicken, KFC, pizza, Vietnamese poh piah, spaghetti, roast chicken and home made yee sang (the box of store-brought yee sang in the picture constituted like 10% of the total amount of yee sang we ate haha).

nomnomnom ate loads again ehe.

Yee sang! Ji Ku and Ji Kim in the background hehe.

Everyone getting their chopsticks ready

Lou Hei!!!

Us cousins =) that’s not everyone though. Reunion dinners at the Chew side of the family are bigger deals cos of the large number of people..also, many of us are scattered everywhere haha. Missing was Ji Ee and family who are in Singapore, Limin and husband in New Zealand, Lijia in Japan, Wee Lyn in Singapore and Say Han Ee and family in Kuching.

Gong Hei Fatt Choy!
